Trade unions urge MEPs not to support CETA agreement

On 18 November Lithuanian trade unions in contribution with local representatives from European Iniciative against TTIP and CETA have sent a letter to the members of the European Parliament with a request to support an appeal to the European Court of Justice seeking to clarify whether CETA prospective Investment Court is in line with European Union law. Trade unions also have called on MEPs to act and encourage the fulfilment of the democratic expectations on the European Parliament to scrutinize CETA.

Lithuanian Parliamentarians rejected President's veto on the New Labour Code

On September 14 the Lithuanian Parliament has decided to reject the President‘s Dalia Grybauskaitė veto on the new Labour Code (LC).

74 MPs voted for a proposal to adopt the new law without the President‘s provided corrections (i.e. for the version which is much worse for workers), against – 39 and 10 MPs abstained.

Lithuanian unions have reached the goal: Labour Code will be re-examined

On September 10 Lithuanian unions held a protest action which aim was to appeal parliamentarians to approve President's Dalia Grybauskaitė veto on the new Labour Code (LC) which was speedily adopted on the end of June. 

Protesters also urged MPs to adopt balanced and to all the partners of social dialoge maximally acceptable LC.

Finally Trade unions efforts were not in vain: 95 MPs voted for the proposal the LC and the accompanying amendments to be discussed again, meanwhile for the proposal to keep the law taken - 23 MPs.

EPSU: Lithuanian Government promoted labor law reform is a straight path to poverty and insecurity

On September 8, EPSU (European Public Services Union) has sent a letter to  the Parliament Speaker Loreta Graužinienė and all the Parliament groups which implies support to Lithuanian trade unions on the eve of protest action which will be held on September 10, near the Parliament building.

The letter also promts the parliamentarians to support the President's veto on the new Lithuanian Labour Code which was speedily passed on the end of June 2016.
