At the Baltic Trade Union Forum – on improvement of employee rights protection mechanisms

On March 31, an international event dedicated to strengthening employee representation and developing social dialogue in the Baltic region is held in Riga – a conference on European Works Councils and information and consultation processes in Latvia and the accompanying Baltic Trade Union Forum, bringing together representatives of trade unions and institutions from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

The participants of the event were welcomed by Egils Baldzens, President of the Latvian Trade Union Confederation.

During the conference, a study on strengthening the competences of European Works Councils in Central and Eastern Europe will be presented, and employees’ information and consultation rights and the practice of their implementation will be discussed. A discussion is also planned on how to improve mechanisms for protecting employees’ rights, involving representatives of state institutions and social partners.

At the Baltic Trade Union Forum to be held later, much attention is planned to be paid to the most pressing labor market issues: the implementation of the Minimum Wage Directive, the promotion of collective bargaining and labor law reforms in the Baltic States.

The legal regulation of strikes and its effectiveness in practice, the inclusion of employee representatives in decision-making at the management level of companies, as well as the implementation of new European Union directives – Wage Transparency and Platform Work – will be discussed.

The Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation (LTUC) is represented at the event by the acting leader Dalia Jakutavičė, lawyer Jonas Gricius, project manager Birutė Daškevičienė and international relations secretary Jonas Januškevičius.
