On March 26, the Nordic IN Joint Committee Meeting was held in Helsinki, bringing together representatives of industrial trade unions from Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The Baltic countries were represented at the meeting by Jurga Subačiūtė-Žemaitienė, coordinator of the Baltic IN network.
Representatives of the European Industrial Trade Union (IndustryAll Europe) secretariat participated in the meeting: Judith Kirton-Darling (Secretary General), Isabelle Barthès (Deputy Secretary General), Benjamin Denis (Head of Industrial Policy Coordination) and Annick Aerts (Head of Enterprise Policy Coordination).
They presented the organization’s activities and main policy directions – from collective bargaining, labor market and enterprise policy to industry, energy and green deal issues.
The discussions highlighted that industrial policy and quality jobs are among the most important issues on the European agenda today, and collective agreements remain an essential tool for protecting workers.
The meeting was also an opportunity to evaluate the activities of Nordic IN, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and to reaffirm that by working together, the Nordic countries can maintain a strong voice in Europe – together representing more than a million employees.
The discussions highlighted:
- the need to strengthen the voice of employees in companies,
- the importance of social conditions for business in Europe,
- common Nordic priorities and values.
