On October 18-19, a meeting of the European Public Service Union (EPSU) youth network was held in Vilnius, bringing together young trade union activists from all over Europe.
The event was attended by representatives from Lithuania, Albania, Norway, Sweden, Kazakhstan, Great Britain, Germany, Latvia, Italy and other countries.
During the meeting, the results of a survey of youth structures were presented, relevant challenges were discussed and good practices were shared – from working conditions and housing accessibility to climate change, digitalization and inclusion.
Lithuania was represented at the event by Aleksandras Jesinas from the Lithuanian Civil Servants, Budgetary and Public Institution Employees’ Trade Union, Gintarė Urnė and Antanas Urna from the Lithuanian Industry Trade Union Federaton and Ignas Milinis from the Lithuanian Federation of Law Enforcement Officers.
Participants were happy to broaden their horizons, establish new contacts and better understand how trade union youth structures work in Europe.
According to Lithuanian representatives, the event was a great opportunity to get to know aspects of different cultures: not all rules work the same in different countries – much depends on the economic situation and public attitudes.
Such meetings allow not only to see the broader activities of trade unions in Europe, but also to critically assess what can be adopted and improved in their own organizations.
