On October 7, at the meeting of the Tripartite Council of the Republic of Lithuania, a chairperson was elected from the trade unions’ side. The Council members entrusted these duties to Dalia Jakutavičė, the interim President of the Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation (LPSK), who will chair the Council for the next six months.
This is the second time D. Jakutavičė has been appointed to lead the Tripartite Council.
The chairmanship rotates every six months among representatives of all three social partners – employees, employers, and the Government.
The Council plans to continue discussing amendments to the Labour Code and other legal acts, strengthening an inclusive labor market, and other social, economic, and labor policy issues relevant to employees and employers.
“The Tripartite Council is an example of how three parties can reach agreement when pursuing a common goal. This institution has authority, so our task is to raise the culture of agreements to an even higher level. The desired result is achieved only through dialogue: both employees and employers strive for success in shaping opinions, and the role of the state is to ensure balance so that neither side becomes dominant,” says D. Jakutavičė.
According to her, social dialogue may seem like a difficult-to-grasp value, but the work of the Tripartite Council shows how cooperation turns into real decisions.
“Over time, we realize that dialogue between social partners is a necessary condition for societal balance. It helps to reconcile the interests of different groups, strengthens social justice and civic engagement. These are values that will never lose relevance,” emphasizes the trade union representative.
