Trade unions held a protest action against hasty social model reading

On April 12 Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation (LTUC) initiated a protest action near the Lithuanian Parliament building in Vilnius related to the recent parliamentarians debate on the draft Labour Code.

LTUC Chairman Arthur Černiauskas argue that the reading of the draft social model takes place in haste. “The Committees have not yet completed their debates regarding all the relevant draft laws, individual parliamentarians are providing new proposals during the debates process, besides the whole draft Labour Code package seem vague and hasty reading can distort the declared objectives of the social model,”- he says.

The draft Labour Code was given to the Parliament’s consideration on 15 October 2015, which according to the Social Security and Labour Ministry was agreed on the Tripartite Council, whilst trade unions said that negotiating sides have failed to reach an agreement on the most important aspects of the draft.
