On May 25th , at the congress of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) which was held in Berlin, the chairwoman of the Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation (LPSK) Inga Ruginienė was elected as the vice-president of the organization.

“This is recognition not only for me, but for the entire Lithuanian trade union movement, and it shows that our work is seen and appreciated. This symbolizes a new qualitative stage of trade unions in Lithuania – our voice will be heard even more in the international space and, hopefully, will lead to more positive changes. ETUC is a strong organization with extensive experience in the social and economic fields, so it is an honor for me to be part of its management team”, comments Inga Ruginienė.

Wolfgang Katzian, the president of the Austrian Trade Union Federation, was elected as the new president of the ETUC.
Esther Lynch, who previously held this position, remains as general secretary.

The Congress is the organization’s most important event, held every four years. This congress is also special because this year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the European Trade Union Confederation.

Many high-profile guests attended and spoke at the organization’s week-long congress in Berlin.

The European Trade Union Confederation is the most influential trade union center in Europe. It represents 45 million members from 93 trade union organizations in 41 countries and 10 branch European trade union federations.

This is the first time when representative of Lithuania holds such a high position in the European trade union movement.
