On 14 October, Tomas Maleckis, a member of the Council of the Lithuanian Industry Trade Union Federation (LPPSF) and a representative of the Trade Union of UAB Elektrėnų komunalinis ūkis, participated in a meeting of the Municipal and Utilities Committee of the European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU).
Together with colleagues from other European countries, participants discussed the future of the energy and public services sectors, the modernisation of electricity grids, the impact of artificial intelligence on workers, energy security and current issues in the water sector.
LPPSF emphasises that the transformation of energy infrastructure must include investment in people — their training, skills development and retraining.
When introducing artificial intelligence, workers and their representatives must be involved in decision-making, and workers’ rights and safety must be safeguarded.
LPPSF also supports the European initiative for a Quality Jobs Act and advocates for binding rules, rather than recommendations alone, to ensure quality working conditions.
