In the meeting with colleagues from Sweden – on challenges of posted workers from Lithuania

On January 23, at a remote meeting with representatives of the Swedish electricians’ union “Elektrikerna”, we discussed critically important issues related to the social guarantees of posted workers from Lithuania when they are seconded to projects in Sweden.

During the discussion, our Swedish colleagues expressed concern that they receive signals about possibly non-transparent activities of some Lithuanian companies. It is noted that employees lack clarity regarding the calculation of wages, and important information about working conditions is often provided only in Swedish or English, avoiding communication in the employees’ native language. This creates a favorable environment for misunderstandings and possible violations of rights.

Special attention was paid to the specifics of labor payment: from the available data, it is assumed that part of the salary is possibly covered by daily allowances, thus reducing the future social guarantees of employees, and other violations were recorded.

In response to this situation, together with our Swedish partners, we decided to cooperate more closely with the responsible institutions and more actively encourage Lithuanian electricians to unite in trade unions before before encountering violations.

We also agreed to expand our partnership with other Baltic trade unions, as their employees in Scandinavia face identical challenges.
